Hi Everyone !
Let us see how a little saving by 64 crore people (less than half of the total population of 140 crore) would yield an immense benefit for the Forex chest and the nation’s exchequer:
If 64 crore people ON AN AVERAGE, save just 250 ml or (1/4) litre per day it is :
16 crore litres/day ⇒ a saving of 160 million litres/day ⇒ a saving of 1 million bbl/day ( since 1 crore= 10 million & 1 bbl~160 litres)
⇒ a saving of 360*1 =360 million bbl/year ⇒ a saving of 0.36 billion bbl/year ( since 1 million=0.001 billion)
⇒a saving of ( 0.36)*($100) = $36 billion/year of Forex ( taking the average price at $100/ bbl)
⇒ a saving of ~Rs.2,70,000 crore per year in the crude import bill in our currency by taking even a lower value of $1=Rs.75 ) ]
Now as regards the ways to be adopted to achieve this saving:
Once the decision is taken one would think of so many ways though I am listing out a few that flashed across my mind. They are :
*when one has to go out to attend to certain tasks, it may be planned to complete the trip such that maximum number are attended to in a single go !
*To pay attention to fuel saving tips frequently announced by PCRA ( Petroleum Conservation Research Association)
*To maintain the vehicles for optimum fuel efficiency
*To minimise the halts while on a stretch of journey ( from laws of mechanics, we understand that a vehicle with frequent halts consumes more fuel than the one in continuous motion.
*To ensure that engines/machines are shut down wherever feasible while on idling with out productive use (say during lunch hours) in factories and workshops.
*To plan for car pooling wherever feasible
